ABOUT LIZ
Liz Barker, a devoted mother of four and spouse to Bill for 15 years, has a personal interest in the success of the Sarasota County school system with three of her children attending its public schools. She has been a hands-on parent, volunteering and even leading the PTO at Lakeview Elementary, and contributing to the School Advisory Committee (SAC). She also served on the book review committee for math books for the county.
Drawing from her past experience as a school psychologist, Liz possesses expertise in various educational areas, from cognitive assessments to positive behavior interventions. Her personal journey, transitioning from being homeschooled with a fundamentalist Christian education into public school during her sophomore year, has fueled her passion for public education. She credits her experience in public education for her success in college and in her career.
As potentially the only school board member with children actually in the public school system, Liz is poised to champion the interests of ALL students, families, and educators in Sarasota. She plans to focus on student achievement, teacher support and keeping culture war distractions out of the boardroom in order to make sure the district’s priorities are the focus of each board meeting.
